Jolanta Jeanneney  > Puppies > 2005 > "L" pups - Gela's litter (2005)
On April 9, 2005 FC Gela von Rauhenstein whelped a litter of 6 puppies - 3 females and 3 males. The sire is Billy von Moosbach-Zuzelek.

Jolanta Jeanneney > At the end of the first day, mom and babies are OK. The pups have color ribbons around their necks so we can track their weights and behavior. They are: -male, red, weight 11.4 oz -male, orange, weight 12.6 oz -male, burgundy, weight 10.4 oz -female, pink, weight 12.8 oz -female, yellow, weight 11.4oz -female, teal, weight 10.8 oz
Jolanta Jeanneney > April 8 - Gela is getting ready to have puppies in the whelping box. She is comfortable and spends a lot of time on her back.
Jolanta Jeanneney > Even though her water broke, she does not have contractions. We can see whelps moving in her tummy but without contractions she cannot expel them. We call our vet at 2am and make arrangements for C-section at 8am on April 9.
Jolanta Jeanneney > Gela is back home with her brood of 6 puppies. She is still groggy from the surgery, but puppies are vigorous and move a lot. Their suckling will stimulate Gela's milk production.
Jolanta Jeanneney > All puppies are of wild boar color. We know that Gela carries a gene for chocolate color so it looks like Billy, the sire of pups, is homozygous for the wild boar color gene.
Jolanta Jeanneney > Puppies are nursing hard even though Gela does not have much milk yet.
Jolanta Jeanneney > April 15 - Gela is a great mother. She cleans her pups and is very patient with them. The puppies' coats look very good - so far no fuzzy. long, soft coats. And it looks like we do not have any smooth coats either though it is too early to determine it with certainty.
Jolanta Jeanneney > April 12 - Gela and puppies are doing very well. She has recovered from the surgery and her appetite is back.
Jolanta Jeanneney > April 15 - puppies are 6 days old. They are healthy and look plump. Their weights are: red 21 oz (at birth 11.4 oz) orange 20 oz (at birth 12.6) burgundy 19 oz (at birth 10.4 oz) pink 22 oz (at birth 12.8 oz) yellow 19 oz (at birth 11.4 oz) teal 18 oz (at birth 10.8 oz)
